The Battle of the Big Bed

We have started to try to get Jackson to sleep in his Big Boy Bed. As anyone with kids know, it is a battle.
With JET III on the way, we are hoping to use Jackson's current crib and just transition him into the Big Boy Bed. It sounded so simple to us naive parents.
We started a few weeks ago by putting toys in his new room with the bed, calling it his bed, just getting him used to it and last night we decided to start the War. He does understand that it is his bed, but just thinks it is a real fun game to get up and down, up and down, up and down.
7:30 the battle starts. His normal bed time is 7:00, so we waiting a little longer. We tell him time to go to the Big Boy Bed and he immediately goes to his new room and climbs in bed and lays down. This is going to be simple.
7:32, He is out of bed, and the door is open and he is laughing.
We now try to read him a story again, and then sit in the rocking chair in the room to calm him down.
8:00, this has failed, so we try the crib again. We were going to let Jackson win this round.
8:15, we hear a Massive thud. We run up and he has flipped out of his crib, so it looks like the Big Boy Bed is staring us in the face again.
We let him stay up to play some more to tire him out.
8:45 Big Boy Bed time again.
This time we try to keep the door shut thinking he will tire himself out.
9:30 rolls around and 45 minutes of on the bed, off the bed, on the bed, off the bed and then banging on the door, we try the crib again with the hopes of not climbing out.
9:36, he is fast asleep in his crib. Jackson wins.
10:30 we move him to his Big Boy Bed so hopefully when he wakes up he will feel safe.
2:00 am. He is up and crawling into our bed...back to the crib.
8:00 am. He wakes up for the day.

Back to the drawing board of what we are going to do tonight....With a new baby on the way, we might as well get used to lack of sleep again.

Ahh 31

So... on Oct 11th, I will be 31. I will officially be IN my 30's. Does this make me a grown up? I still miss the kids table. I wanted so badly to be at the big kids table, now I want to be back at the kids table.
A few times a year I try to sit down and reflect on life at the present time, (most of the time, a cocktail helps my thought process).
Life at the Tyler household has been crazy crazy crazy. We are 6 weeks off from having another baby in the house, which honestly, hasn't truly sank in it. For me, I am just trying to get through soccer season. Jackson will be 18 months when JET III is welcomed into this world. And there lies when I start to feel very old. 2 kids. One kid I can still be cool and maybe go out from time to time. BUT, 2 kids...that is a WHOLE different world! When I do sit down and think about it, I am pretty pumped about having two boys. Emily and I have said on numerous occasions it is hard to imagine loving another boy as much as we love Jackson. But, as any parent with 2 kids will say, you love each kid the same and in different ways. I welcome the challenge and a new phase of the Tyler household. We still to cringe when we hear a crying baby on TV and wonder if we are ready for this again, but ready or not, in 6 weeks we have a crying baby.
To all of my friends who I don't see. I miss you guys, and hope to see you soon. Come visit me!

Emily is still rocking out. Running 3-4 days week and is as tiny as ever. She is the rock that holds the Tyler household together!  Soccer season for me, is crazy. 6 days a week of soccer and then recruiting. Tonight I did not get back until 10:00. We will see how the 2013 season pans out, I hope it is all worth it. The great thing, for me, about soccer is the ability to shut off the outside world for 2 hours a night and just coach. No cell phone, no emails, no pissed off customers, just soccer with a group of girls who want to be there and want to get better. Really, it is want keeps me sane, but always drives Emily insane. But I have a passion for the game. Every team I have coached I always ask: "Why did you get into soccer and why do you still play?" And every girl still plays because it's fun. My answer is Dad. Dad got me into soccer, and it was our thing. We reffed together, he coached me. It is just what we did. And I want nothing more than to have that with my sons. It is tough not being home, many days I don't get to see Jackson, I leave for work early and get home late. I cherish my weekend times with Little Man. So, friends who invite me to things and I don't go, you know why.

As I was writing this blog, my Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Loretta just sent me a e-card and I will leave you with the quote it had:

"That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much."
I like it.
