Here’s to a new 2013!
Well, let’s start with the big
news: We have sold our house and moved. WHAT??? We listed our house 7 months
ago and after a long process, housing showing 3-4 times a week, Emily
constantly cleaning (I wish I could say that I also cleaned, but I am not
allowed to clean…well, I can dust, and I am a damn good duster) and just having
the house “show” ready we got an offer.
Let
me back up to the ‘Why’ we sold our house before I move on. As some of you
know, Justin and I own a Pay Day Loan store as well as Floyd Glass &
Window. The Pay Day world is an ever changing, living in fear that the laws
could change(here is a link from last year http://www.semissourian.com/story/1804305.html)
and virtually put us out of business over night. Justin and I have seen this
change over the past 3-4 years, which was a driving force for us to purchase
Floyd, so we can not depend on Planet Cash income.
With this ever-looming fear that a
large chunk of income could be gone over night, we decided to downsize our
lives. This has been a discussion in the Tyler household for quite some time,
and a very tough decision had to be made. This past November was the closest we
came to losing Planet Cash. There was a large push with about 97,000 signatures
to get the law on the ballet and I am pretty sure that if it makes the ballet,
it will pass, and put us out of business. They were about 207 signatures shy to
get it on the ballet, so 2013 is going could prove to be the year it makes the
ballet.
So, there is the back-story. When
we first decided to put the house on the market, I was against it. I loved our
house. Loved the pool, loved my Man Cave, but as time went on, and the thought
of simplifying our lives became more of a reality, my mindset slowly changed. I
am very excited about saving more money, spending less on a house and being
able to spend more on my family.
Russ, my Father-in-Law told me
after we found out we were pregnant with Jackson that our needs will
drastically change and be focused on the kids. At the time, I knew what he meant, but didn’t fully
understand it. But I get it now, and boy was he right. What I want and feel
like I need did drastically change and the thought of saving more money with a
smaller house sounds perfect. We had a BIG house, 3,400 of finished living area
and even with 2 kids; we don’t NEED that much space, it was nice, but not
needed. We are saving a ton of money a month and now have a 2,200 square foot
house, still with an in ground pool, just not a finished basement, which we
will be adding a room down there very soon. So, all in all we did not lose
much, except a larger payment. We got very very lucky with the house we moved
to. Nice neighborhood, in Emily’s school district, closer to cool stuff and the
biggest thing we are pumped about is a room ALL for the kids. It is massive,
they can play, destroy, run, jump, and whatever they want in there. And back to
what Russ said, our wants and needs change. A few years ago I would have wanted
the large room for me, for my area, my 49er stuff, my pictures and put a bar in
etc. Now, I wanted the area for Jackson and Harrison, let them have fun. Man, I
feel all grown up. Ha.
