the Man Cave gets an update

As long as I can remember I have always wanted a whole room dedicated to the San Francisco 49ers . I have been a 49ers fan since I was wearing short pants:

Jerry Rice
is my football idol. (On a side note: I did get the chance to smoke a cigar with him on my 21st birthday; one of the highlights on my life!) Anywho. When Emily and I were looking for a new house I kept this room stored away in my mind, just looking for the perfect house to proudly display my 49er stuff that I have collected over the years.

When we found the perfect house for Em and I, thoughts of my 49er basement began to flow through my mind. I could not wait to get the basement painted and turned in my Man Cave!

As my Man Cave begun to get put together, I figured that a bar would be the perfect way to finish the 800 square feet of area that I am allowed to have my friends over. With a bar down there, toilet and a full shower: I might never have to leave.
Last Saturday with the help of Jason Lange, Matt Graham, Pat Cochrun and Matt Cox, we begin to build the Man Cave bar. None of us are the best of carpenters; I might even say we are shooting in the dark here. But, with our powers combined, we were up to the task that lay ahead of us. 8 hours and 2 ½ cases of beer later, we have a bar that stands on it’s on and actually has promise.

That night we cracked open the first beer served in the Man Cave Bar and now begun to process of naming our creation. Many names were thrown out, but in the end we all agreed to “The 2x4.” Two reasons we decided on this name. The first is that as we drank more, we got a little sloppier in our measurements, and so the theme of night was: Slap another 2x4 on there. We have a bar so study that it will hold an elephant. And a 2x4 is a nickname for a 24 oz beer, so we found it appropriate.

Jason and I have been working pretty much non-stop since Saturday to have The 2x4 completed in time for Saturday, which marks my 27th birthday and the official opening of The 2x4. It is currently 1:00am and I just called it quits for the night. Emily is already sick of hearing about how cool we think the new and improved Man Cave is. She did come down tonight and comment on how nice the bar turned out. She said that she had little faith in our carpentry skills and thought she would have to burn the bar down while I was away. And I will say that I am also very proud of us for building this bar, I also had my doubts. It is amazing what a few guys who want a place to drink and watch football can accomplish!

Here are some pictures of the Man Cave during construction. I will post pictures after The 2x4 is all done.

I am standing about 5 feet from the bottom of the stars. The 2x4

Another view of The 2x4. It is 8 feet long, just in case you were wondering

A view from behind the bar

Another behind the bar. The far right are the stairs. Emily is in the background inspecting the mess I have made

(2 pictures away you will see what is on the right)
A shot from the other side looking back. The entry way on the left leads back to The 2x4

This is what is on the right 2 pictures up. Empty space for now, but in search of a ping pong table

Ah the Man Cave bathroom. You can see through back to The 2x4

The shower in the bathroom. whoooo, ahhhhhh. I took this picture so you can see the "nice" country blue that was the Man Cave. It is now a much mainlier color.

And a picture of Norah and I, since Justin doesn't love you all enough to post pictures of Norah anymore.
